Parc Borely
The largest green space in Marseille, Parc Borély is located on 133 acres (54 ha)of finely landscaped 19th century gardens, tropical palm trees, and thriving fish ponds. In addition, an 18th century home, complete with garden is open for viewing and boat rides are available in the small lake.
Jardin du Pharo
Located on a stretch of land overlooking the picturesque harbor, Jardin du Pharo was originally built by Napoleon as a gift to the people of Marseille. A memorial crafted by artist André Verdilhan stands as a reminder of the long and often tragic history of the port city.
Le Palais Longchamp
The mammoth fountain at the Palais Longchamp is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. Built in 1862, flanked by enormous stone bulls, marble maidens, and towering high above the green gardens below, this park is frequented by locals and visitors alike who stand in awe of the ornate carvings and majestic wings of this stunning Marseille landmark.
Iles de Frioul
Visible from the Vieux Port, the Iles des Frioul have a rich history, the two islands Ratonneau and Pomègues have been host to a wide array of notable visitors, from cholera victims, to German soldiers. Now designated as a park, nature enthusiasts embark on a visit to the islands to enjoy the diverse plant life and colorful bird watching.
Jardin Pierre Puget
A stone carved footbridge beckons visitors to the Jardin Pierre Puget to stroll the lush grounds and take in the stunning views of Marseille and the myriad of yachts docked in the harbor. The garden also acts as a gateway to the Notre-Dame du la Garde, a must see for visitors to this dynamic port city.
