Chateau d'If

Located on a 30 sq. km (11.5 sq. mi) island west of the entrance to the Vieux Port, the Chateau d'If began its life in the 16th century as a fortress. Shortly thereafter it was made into a prison, housing the most notorious criminals of the time, including the hero of the Revolution Mirabeau, the rebels of 1848 and the Communards of 1871.

Hôtel de Ville

Hôtel de Ville was established by the Association of Pierre Pavillon and Jean-Claude Rambot from 1655 to 1670. The original entrance still stands, and it features a wrought-iron entrance to a courtyard.
