Atelier de Cézanne

Atelier de Cézanne was once the studio and home of the painter who was at the forefront of the cubist movement. It remains in a very similar state to that which Cezanne left it in 1906. His coat still hangs on the wall, and an unfinished painting sits on an easel.

Musée Grobet-Labadié

Musée Grobet-Labadié hosts an impressive collection of medieval Provencal and Burgundian sculptures, as well as exquisitve furniture from Louis XV and XVI. Among the other permanent exhibits are 16th and 17th century Italian and French faïence; 17th century Gobelin tapestries; and German, Italian, French and Flemish paintings from the 15th to 19th centuries. Children under 11 years of age are admitted free of charge.

One of the most famous painters in the area was Paul Cézanne, and Galerie du Festival is mostly dedicated to his works. Among his pieces displayed here are lithographs, etchings, and reproductions of some of his lesser known paintings. Posters and other reproductions of his work are also available for sale here.

Musée des Beaux-Arts

Musée des Beaux-Arts is housed in the northern wing of the Palais Longchamp, which is home to an impressive fountain and collonade built during the Second Empire. Artwork from the 16th to 19th centuries is located here, and the paintings have been created by such artists as Rubens, Corot, Millet, Ingres, and David. The museum also has a permanent collection of approximately 80 sculptures and other objects d'art. Pierre Puget has an entire sculpture gallery devoted to him. Children under ten are admitted entry to the museum free of charge.

Musée Granet

Musée de la Faïence

The Musée de la Faïence is home to one of the largest collections of porcelain in France. Items range from the Neolithic times to present day. Numerous delicate and ornate ceramics from the tables of 18th and 19th century local landowners are also displayed here. The museum is located in a stately 19th century home.

Archealogical excavations still go on in the gardens at Musée d'Histoire de Marseille. These excavations are an attempt to learn more of the ancient town of Massalia, which was founded by Greek sailors. Visitors will see many other exhibits as well, and these feature such items as pottery and coins.
